Collection: Caucasian Rugs

Caucasian rugs are woven in the mountainous Caucasus region, which lies within the republics of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and the Autonomous Republic of Daghestan. This narrow strip of land, between the Black and Caspian seas, forms a land bridge between Europe and Asia. The area to the south includes the weaving areas of Kazak, Karabagh, Shirvan, Talish, and Gendge; to the north are the Dagestan and Kuba weaving districts.  Caucasian rugs usually are woven with geometric designs and motifs. Kelims, soumaks, and other flat weaves were also traditionally woven in the Caucasus.
