Antique Persian Hamadan Rug 6x9 – Blue and Red, Hand-Knotted Wool Carpet
About this Hamadan Rug
This antique Persian Hamadan rug, measuring approximately 6x9, showcases a beautifully balanced medallion design set against a rich field of deep blue adorned with intricate floral and geometric motifs. The striking ivory-centered medallion is framed by red corner spandrels and a densely patterned field that radiates energy and character. Its saturated palette and tight weave reflect the artisan craftsmanship typical of village weavers in the Hamadan region. This piece, dating to the late 19th century, is in very good condition and offers both durability and decorative appeal for traditional or eclectic interiors.
About Hamadan Rugs
Hamadan rugs are woven in and around the ancient city of Hamadan, one of Iran's oldest weaving centers. These rugs are typically crafted with hand-spun wool and a single-weft construction, giving them a dense yet pliable handle. Known for their tribal charm, Hamadan rugs often feature bold medallions, repeated allover patterns, and high-contrast color schemes. Their weavers, spread across hundreds of villages, brought regional variation to a unified aesthetic, making Hamadan one of the most diverse and prolific rug-producing areas in Persia.
