About Turkoman Salor Rugs
Turkoman Salor rugs originate from the Salor tribe, one of the major Turkoman tribes of Central Asia, particularly in regions now part of Turkmenistan. Known for their precision and high knot density, Salor rugs are revered for their rich red fields and repeated gul medallions—tribal emblems that often denote prestige. These pieces were historically woven for status and dowry purposes and feature a distinctive aesthetic tied closely to nomadic traditions. The wool is typically lustrous, and the weave is remarkably fine, making them both beautiful and durable.
Unique Characteristics of this Salor Rug
This rug boasts a fine weave of approximately 400 KPSI, exceptional for a tribal piece. The color saturation and clarity of the repeating Salor guls, paired with a well-preserved condition, make it an excellent example of tribal artistry. Its compact size makes it a versatile addition to a study, entryway, or small alcove that could benefit from a bold and decorative touch.
