Persian Baluchi Prayer Rug 3x5
About this Baluchi Rug
This vintage 3x5 Persian Baluchi prayer rug features a traditional mihrab design, with an arch flanked by stylized minaret-like columns, symbolizing a sacred architectural space. The deep brown field is dotted with tiny boteh motifs and framed by a rich series of geometric borders in earthy reds, saffron gold, and midnight blue. Chevron side bands and cross medallions further enhance the tribal character of the piece. Hand-knotted in wool, this rug’s bold graphic elements and devotional format make it ideal for a quiet corner, study, or entryway.
About Baluchi Rugs
Baluchi rugs are handmade by Baluch tribes primarily located along the border regions of Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Known for their compact size and tribal authenticity, these rugs often serve as prayer rugs or utilitarian floor coverings. Characterized by their rich natural dyes, wool pile, and repetitive geometric designs, Baluchi rugs embody a raw, artisanal aesthetic. Their use of symbolic motifs, including the mihrab and tree of life, reflects both spiritual and cultural storytelling passed down through generations of weavers.
