About Qashqai Rugs
Qashqai rugs are woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribes of southwestern Iran, primarily in the Fars province. Known for their dynamic, geometric patterns and vivid natural dyes, these rugs often feature diamond-shaped medallions, stylized animals, and symbolic motifs passed down through generations. Qashqai weavings are admired for their tight knotting and vibrant use of color, reflecting both the tribal identity and storytelling traditions of their makers.
Unique Characteristics of This Qashqai Rug
This rug appears to originate from the Khamsheh confederation—closely related to the Qashqai—distinguished by the repeated lozenge medallions, angular motifs, and subtle tribal asymmetries. Its muted central field, flanked by sharp geometric elements in saturated colors, showcases the visual depth typical of high-quality antique tribal rugs. The wool has aged beautifully, lending a mellow patina that speaks to its age and authenticity.
