About This Bijar Carpet

This antique Persian Bijar rug, handwoven in the 1920s, is a remarkable example of the craftsmanship and durability that define Bijar carpets. The rug showcases a classic Herati pattern, a timeless Persian motif consisting of delicate floral elements arranged within diamond shapes, complemented by curling leaves that create a mesmerizing sense of movement. The central medallion sits elegantly within a rich rust-red field. The expertly woven border adds structure to the composition, featuring intricate vine-like designs that enhance the overall symmetry.

Renowned as the "Iron Rugs of Persia," Bijar carpets are celebrated for their dense wool pile and tight knots, making them exceptionally durable. This rug’s texture and construction ensure it can withstand generations of use while retaining its intricate beauty. Whether placed in a traditional setting or used as a statement piece in a modern space, this antique Bijar rug is a true collector’s item.

About Persian Bijar Rugs

Originating from the Kurdish weavers of western Iran, Bijar rugs are known for their robust construction and rich, saturated colors. The Herati pattern, often seen in Bijar designs, is one of the most recognizable Persian motifs, featuring repeating floral diamonds intertwined with delicate vine scrolls. This pattern adds a sense of refinement and movement to the rug, making it a versatile and highly sought-after design.

Bijar rugs are famous for their unique wet-weaving technique, which compresses the fibers and results in a remarkably firm, durable pile. This technique allows the rugs to maintain their structure for decades, resisting wear even in high-traffic areas. As a result, antique Bijar rugs are not only prized for their aesthetic beauty but also for their longevity and resilience.
