Lanamar was a Karastan line of the mid-20th century. Its rugs carry Persian design names, such as Kirman, Sarouk and Kashan, with pattern numbers in the 5500s. Because they date from Karastan's early decades, Lanamar rugs fall into what the trade calls antique Karastans, and they are prized by collectors who look for early examples.

Lanamar Kirmans
Kirman designs are the most often seen Lanamar rugs, including floral ivory Kirmans and dark-ground Kirmans such as #5579 in navy. Like the Kirman designs of the Original Collection, they follow the graceful floral style of Persian Kerman rugs. See Karastan Kirman Rugs.
Lanamar Sarouks and Kashans
The Lanamar Sarouk, #5528, follows the red floral Sarouk style, and Lanamar Kashans follow the formal medallion style of Kashan. See Karastan Sarouk Rugs.
Identifying a Lanamar
Look for the Lanamar name and a number in the 5500s on the label. Lanamar rugs share the hallmarks of other Karastans, including a design visible on the back and a sewn-on fringe, and their age usually shows in a gently mellowed palette. See How to Identify and Date a Vintage Karastan.
